Lifeline Australia - 13 11 14

Lifeline provides all Australians experiencing a personal crisis with access to online and phone crisis support and suicide prevention services.

Text Service is available on 0477 13 11 14.

Suicide Call Back Service - 1300 659 467

The Suicide Call Back Service provides immediate support to anyone feeling suicidal. In addition, they can provide ongoing support through up to six 50 minute telephone counselling sessions that will provide you with longer term support.

Kids Helpline - 1800 55 1800

This service provides free, confidential counselling for kids and young people aged 5-25.

State Crisis Hotlines:


Each state has their own Mental Health Line that you can call if you are worried about your own or someone else's mental health. They are staffed by trained mental healthcare professionals that can direct you to the right service in your area based on your concerns.

General Mental Health Support Services:


Beyond Blue - 1300 224 636

This service provides online or phone support for people with anxiety and depression. 

Online Chat Service is also available.

e-Headspace - 1800 650 890

This is a national mental health support service for people aged 12-25. Online support is also available if you create an account. 

Operating hours: 9am-1am (AEST/AEDT), 7 days a week


SANE - 1800 16 7263

This service provides information, guidance and referrals for people with recurring, persistent or complex mental health issues and trauma.

Operating hours: weekdays 10am-10pm (AEST/AEDT)


Qlife - 1800 184 527

This is the national counselling and referral service for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTIQ+) people.

Online Chat Service is also available.

Operating hours: 3pm-midnight AEST/AEDT, 7 days a week

Domestic Abuse:


1800RESPECT - 1800 737 732

Provides confidential information and support for people impacted by sexual assault, domestic or family violence and abuse.

Operating hours: 24/7 including public holidays

Eating Disorders:


The Butterfly Foundation - 1800 33 4673

This service provides free and confidential support for anyone in Australia concerned about eating disorders or body image issues. 

Online Chat Service is also available.

Eating Disorders Victoria - 1300 550 236

The EDV Hub is a free and confidential service providing information and peer support for people experiencing eating disorders or those who are supporting them. 

Operating Hours: Monday – Friday from 9.30AM – 4:30PM

This service does not provide phone support, however provides a more extensive list of the support services that are available in Australia.
